Westfield outscored New Palestine 43-31 in the second half on the way to a 68-64 victory Tuesday in boys’ basketball action.
The visiting Shamrocks (10-8) jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but eventually fell behind by as many as 14 points in the second quarter. A 3-point play by Josh Penley gave the Dragons (12-5) their largest lead at 33-19 with under three minutes remaining in the second quarter, but Westfield closed the half with a 6-0 run and carried that momentum into the third quarter.
The Shamrocks were ahead 44-43 after the third quarter and led by as many as 10 points with under four minutes, 35 seconds to play in the contest.
Wade Burtron (25 points), Matt Fischer (13 points) and Dejuan Simmons (12 points) paced Westfield, while Reid Clark and Brandon Collins had 15 points each for New Palestine, which has lost five of its last eight games.
The Indiana Junior Football Academy (IJFA) will host a Fundamental Skills Camp March 4, March 6 and March 11 at Mt. Vernon High School. The camp is for players in grades 4-8.
All players will be coached in the fundamental skills of their offensive and defensive positions with the exception of the quarterbacks, who will work exclusively as quarterbacks.
Mt. Vernon assistant coach Craig Barr, a former head coach at Chatard and Noblesville, will direct the camp, which is open to players from all school districts.
Cost is $80, which includes seven hours of instruction, video instruction and a T-shirt. For five or more players from the same school, cost is $60 each.

The Eastern Hancock softball program will host a clinic Feb. 25 at the high school gym at a cost of $30.
Players in grades K-4 can register at 8:30 a.m. for their clinic (9-noon), while players in grades 5-8 can register at 12:30 p.m. for the 1-4 p.m. clinic.
Clinic T-shirts are provided with registration, but players registering the day of the clinic may have to wait until a later date to receive a shirt. To register early, contact the athletic department or EH head coach Jack Heiden (email@example.com).
Heiden will run the clinic with help from other Indiana high school coaches, EH players and former college players.
The Greenfield-Central softball program will host a camp for players up through eighth grade March 3-4 at the G-C Fieldhouse from 1-4:30 p.m. each day.
The camp will be directed by varsity coach Jason Stewart, his players and assistant coaches. Cost is $40 per player or $25 for one day. Maximum of 50 girls will be accepted for the camp.
