The Marauders are headed to Lebanon for another regional.
The Class 3A No. 4-ranked Lebanon softball team beat Western Boone 2-1 Thursday to win the Sectional 25 title. The Tigers will host unranked Mt. Vernon, the Sectional 26 winner, in a one-game regional championship Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The winner advances to the Brown County Semistate Saturday.
During the last deep Mt. Vernon postseason run, the girls’ basketball team traveled to Lebanon Feb. 18 and returned home with a regional title.
Members of that girls’ basketball team included Rachel Houck and Ellie Balbach, and they’re also starring for the MV softballers, who swept three sectional games by a combined score of 53-0.
Balbach (18-3, 2.40 ERA) and Houck (.596, 14 home runs) have gotten plenty of help in leading the Marauders (22-7) to their first sectional title since 2002. Whitney Estes, Ambry Turpen and Brooke Saldana are among several players who bashed the sectional competition in historic fashion.
