Pendleton Heights ran away with the Hoosier Heritage Conference Golf Meet Saturday at Antler Pointe Golf Club in Rushville. The Arabians totaled 308 points, 21 strokes ahead of second-place Shelbyville (329). Yorktown was third.

Tyler Meyer of Pendleton Heights was the HHC individual champ with a round of 73.

Delta (338) and Rushville (341) were fourth and fifth, respectively, with Greenfield-Central (348), Mt. Vernon (354) and New Palestine (357) bringing up the rear.

MV’s Nick Dant (83) and G-C’s Jake Kauth (84) earned HHC ribbons (for places 9-15). Top eight finishers earned All-HHC medals. Luke Feeney (87) was the low scorer for New Palestine.

Adam Caston added an 85 for the Cougars. The Marauders’ Ryan Barker signed for an 87 and New Palestine’s Nick Roembke took an 88. (Complete results listed below).

“The boys played fairly well, but I would have liked to see us score a little better,” MV coach Caleb Zelencik said. “Nick (Dant) had a good round, but couldn’t hit a putt to get lower.”

Softball

Marauders win Cougar Classic

The Mt. Vernon softball team won the Greenfield-Central Cougar Classic Saturday by totaling 26 runs in its three-game run to the title.

MV topped host G-C in the championship match 8-3. Ellie Balbach struck out nine in a complete-game victory and improved to 10-3 on the season. The Marauders used a six-run fifth inning to flip a one-run deficit into a 7-2 advantage.

Sami Frazier took the loss, going seven innings and yielding eight runs (three earned) and striking out 10. Brittany Hardwick and Ashley Whitaker each recorded two hits and drove in a run.

In its semifinal matchup, MV edged Seymour 8-7. Rachel Houck hit a solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning to break the tie. Houck finished the game 5-for-5 with two doubles and three runs. Brooke Saldana was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. The Marauders had 18 hits in the game.

Mt. Vernon (14-7) bettered Greensburg 20-3 in its first round matchup.

The Cougars fell in their semifinal contest, an 8-2 decision to Richmond. Whitaker was 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run. Frazier and Alyssa Walls each had two hits. Richmond forfeited its chance to play in the title game because it ran out of players due to illness and other issues, so G-C advanced.

Greenfield prevailed in its first game against Franklin County 8-2. Ashley Whitaker earned the win for G-C (19-8), pitching seven innings of five-hit, two-run ball. She struck out 10. Offensively, Frazier hit a grand slam, Kristen Wise notched three hits while Kimmy Ellenberger and Ashley Brunk logged a pair of hits and scored two runs apiece.

Eastern Hancock dropped both of its matchups on the day. In its first game, Seymour won 10-9. Savannah Blevins (2-for-4, double, RBI), Allison Dickey (2-for-3, two runs, triple) and Tori Bednarski (2-for-4, two doubles, two RBI) paced the EH offense. Taylor Mercer took the loss.

In Game 2, the Royals (13-10) lost a close contest to Greensburg by the score of 5-4. Skyler Overleese, Taylor Denny and Dickey each logged two hits.

Amelia Shepherd (No. 1 singles), Taylor Titus (No. 2 singles), Alli Frazier (No. 3 singles) and the No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Brand/Kyla Leary went 1-1.

Marauders win one, drop two at Mt. Vernon Invite
