Greenfield-Central freshman high jumper Regan Lewis culminated her impressive indoor season by taking second at the Hoosier State Relays Indoor State Finals Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan. Lewis’ leap of 5-7 was a personal best and tied the school record. Noblesville’s Rachel Mather won the event with a jump of 5-8.
The G-C boys’ track and field team had two participants at the Indoor State Finals. Matthew Dickerson placed ninth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.81 seconds and was 12th in the long jump with a bound of 21’6.75”.
Jeremiah Wray took home All-State from the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country by taking eighth in the pole vault, clearing 13’6”.
Zehner, Napariu are Saturday standouts for Dragons
Two seniors guided the New Palestine girls’ track and field team Saturday at the Indoor State Finals. Corinne Zehner placed seventh in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.7 seconds, 0.35 seconds behind winner Demetra Taylor of Ft. Wayne Northtrop. Sonya Napariu finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 39-4.5. Winner Rachel Dincoff of DeKalb threw 43-0.75
The Dragon girls also took 14th in the 4x200 relay, as the team of Nicole Fluegel, Lauren Kehrt, Lauren Joray and Zehner finished in 1:49.80. Rachel Wineman placed 13th in the high jump with a leap of 5-0. Other NP participants were Kristin Villiger (high jump) and Michaela Merlau (pole vault).
On the boys’ side, the team of Austin Timmerman, Sam Jones, Brian Wagner and Dillon Pike placed 26th in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:37.63.
Marauders break school record — again
Four members of the Mt. Vernon boys’ track and field team re-wrote the school record book Saturday at the Indoor State Finals.
The 4x400 relay team of Corey White, Eric Thompson, Issac Davis and Andrew Noble placed 19th with a time of 3:36.22, breaking their own school record they set the previous week during a qualifying meet.
