In its last home meet of the season, the Greenfield-Central swimming and diving team swept Shelbyville in convincing fashion Thursday.
The girls won 120-54, improving its dual record to 6-3-1.
Individual first-place finishes went to Carly Fernandes (200 freestyle), Kylie Smith (200 individual medley), Taylor Johnson (50 freestyle), Taylor Cermak (100 freestyle) and Jessica Ensign (100 breaststroke).
The 200 medley relay (Fernandes, Olivia Stirn, Johnson, Cermak) and 200 freestyle relay (Fernandes, Holly Curry, Sam Gulden, Johnson) also prevailed.
“The girls swam well for having three meets in one week. We had several swimmers win their event for the first time this season, so they had a lot of fun,” G-C girls coach Emily Logan said. “We were able to celebrate our seniors: Carly Fernandes, Taylor Johnson and Sam Gulden. These three young ladies have been great leaders for this team.”
On the boys side, G-C triumphed 119-61, moving to 9-1 in dual meets.
Individual victors were Bailey Willoughby (200, 500 freestyle), Kody Garcia (200 individual medley), Austin Gaunt (diving), Patrick Stutz (100 butterfly), Blake Carlton (100 freestyle) and Jared Tomer (100 backstroke).
The Cougars also took the 200 freestyle relay (Stutz, Cody Wilburn, Willoughby, Joey Connell) and 400 freestyle relay (Josh Cummins, Michael Barber, Luke Jones, Wilburn).
“This night was about the seniors and all the underclassmen did a fantastic job of honoring them and securing a victory,” G-C boys coach Mark Logan said.
Greenfield-Central is at the Fishers Invitational today.
MV splits with Pendleton Heights
The Mt. Vernon girls swimming and diving team beat host Pendleton Heights Thursday, winning 94-89.
Haley Moore (100 butterfly), Gloria Gonzales (100 freestyle) and Olivia Shannon prevailed for MV.
The boys lost to PH 94-91, with first-place finishes notched by Dixon Tierney (200 freestyle), Brisco Wood (200 individual medley) and Cole Case (100 backstroke).
The Marauders host Cathedral on Jan. 24.
Due to incorrect information provided, Sarah Henderson was not listed among the winners for the Eastern Hancock girls swim team in their meet Wednesday at Elwood.
Henderson was part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team, which also included Bekah Dickmander, Hailey Carlton and Amanda Dickmander.
G-C tops Beech Grove
The Greenfield-Central wrestling team defeated visiting Beech Grove Thursday, 51-28.
The Cougars improved to 11-6 in dual matches.
Individual results were not provided. G-C is at the Mt. Vernon 6-Way today.
