Prep Wrap: MV swimming sweeps Delta

The Mt. Vernon girls swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 Thursday by defeating host Delta 117-69.

Winners for MV were Eve Gonzales (200 freestyle), Olivia Shannon (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke), Gloria Gonzales (50, 100 freestyle), Emily McKinney (diving), Haley Moore (100 butterfly), Maddie Powell (500 freestyle) and Jessica Hantz (100 backstroke).

On the boys side, the Marauders moved to 2-1 by topping the Eagles 97-88.

Dixon Tierney (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Brisco Wood (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke) and Cole Case (100 backstroke) prevailed for Mt. Vernon.

MV is at Hagerstown next Thursday.


G-C boys stay unbeaten

The Greenfield-Central boys swimming and diving squad is now 3-0 following its 126-54 road victory over New Castle Thursday.

Individual victors for G-C were Jared Tomer (200 freestyle), Patrick Stutz (200 individual medley), Austin Gaunt (diving), Brenden Gill (100 butterfly), Bailey Willoughby (100 freestyle), Spencer Young (500 freestyle) and Jacob Keener (100 backstroke).

The 200 medley relay team of Josh Cummins, Luke Jones, Zach Phillips and Gill as well as the 400 freestyle relay team of Robert Holt, AJ Shelton, Tomer and Stutz also garnered first-place honors.

As for the G-C girls, they fell just short against the Trojans, losing 97-87 and dropping to 4-2 on the year.

Carly Fernandes (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke) and Taylor Johnson (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly) took home individual honors, as well as the 200 medley relay team of Fernandes, Olivia Stirn, Johnson and Taylor Cermak.

G-C hosts Pendleton Heights next Thursday.

Yorktown doubles up on New Pal

The New Palestine girls swimming team was felled by Yorktown Thursday, 107-79. NP is now 2-2-1 on the season.

Addison Virt (100 breaststroke), Shannon Jones (diving), Emily Trimpe (100 freestyle) and Erin Trimpe (500 freestyle) prevailed for the Dragons.

The boys also dropped their match to the Tigers by the score of 113-70.

Winners for NP were Luke Steigerwalt (100 butterfly), Grant Gish (100 freestyle) and the 200 medley relay team of Jake Mitchell, Chris Dodd, Steigerwalt and Wil Mitchell.

NP is at Delta next Thursday.


Cougars lose close decision to Franklin Central

The Greenfield-Central wrestling team lost to Franklin Central Thursday, 33-30.

Winners for G-C were Taylor Wright (113, 11-5 decision), Sam Locke (132, 6-3 decision), Josh Farrell (152, fall), Joe Hoskins (160, fall), Austin Rose (170, fall) and Tyler Beeson (heavyweight, fall).

The Cougars are at Warren Central Wednesday.
