Prep Wrap: MV boys' soccer improves to 5-1 in HHC

Fueled by Mouhamed Konate’s two goals, the Mt. Vernon boys’ soccer team edged Pendleton Heights 3-2 Thursday to move to 5-1 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play.

Konate, who added an assist, has scored a county-best 16 goals this season.

Matt Powell also scored for the Marauders. Shane DeWael and Jake Fontaine notched assists.

MV (7-5-2) is at 2A No. 16 Fishers today.

Boys’ soccer

Fishers 4, New Palestine 0

The visiting Tigers blanked the Dragons Thursday.

“Fishers is a good team with lots of depth and good technical play,” NP coach Bobby Holden said. “We are looking forward to Saturday’s game now.”

NP (7-5-2) will conclude its season with three straight HHC matches, starting today when it welcomes Delta.

Girls’ soccer

Greenfield-Central 7, Shelbyville 0

Sammie McCoy had a hat trick, Alli Frazier scored twice and Katie Peters registered a clean sheet in net to give the Cougars a road win.

McCoy has now scored 21 times this season, best in the county.

Abbey Schulz and Emily Koers added goals.

G-C (8-5, 4-2 HHC) hosts 2A No. 2 Hamilton Southeastern Monday.

Boys' tennis

Eastern Hancock 5, Knightstown 0

The Royals blanked their rivals Thursday, getting straight-set wins from Ryan Speas (No. 1 singles), Caleb Wallen (No.2 singles), Brandon Ray (No. 3 singles) and Danny Rash/Garrett Hammond (No. 1 doubles).

EH hosts the Eastern Hancock Invitational today.

New Palestine 3, Chatard 2

Brent Barrett (No. 1 singles), Stratton Smith (No. 2 singles) and Connor Swain (No. 3 singles) swept the singles matches for the Dragons.

NP (11-3) concludes its regular season by hosting Rushville Monday.

Lawrence Central 4, Mt. Vernon 1

Chandler Hines and Andrew Noble picked up a three-set win at No. 2 doubles for Mt. Vernon.

MV (8-7) hosts No. 22 Delta Monday.


New Palestine 3, Pike 1

The Dragons prevailed for the third time in four matches Thursday by dispatching the host Red Devils 25-13, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22.

Jamie Morris (seven kills, three aces, 12 digs), Katie Morris (six kills, 13 assists, two aces, seven blocks), Ali Tucker (four blocks) and McKenze Qualkinbush (five kills, two blocks) paced New Palestine.

NP 11-12 hosts 3A No. 1 Yorktown Tuesday.

Greenfield-Central 3, Scecina 2

Alex Colclazier posted a personal-best 47 digs as the Cougars triumphed going away Thursday, 15-25, 25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13. Colclazier also set a new school record with 48 serve receive attempts.

Megan Bradley (38 assists, 14 digs, two block assists), Jordan Bunch (17 kills), Rachel Irbe (15 kills, 14 digs, five aces) and Maddi Graham (eight kills, three block assists) also contributed for Greenfield-Central.

G-C (12-6) hosts the Cougar Challenge Tournament today.
