A flood of Hancock County athlete participated in the Hoosier State Relays Indoor Finals Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan.
In the big school (4A/5A) school division, Greenfield-Central's Tyler Beeson was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 52 feet, one and three-quarter inches. Teammate Logan Addington was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, four and three-quarter inches.
New Palestine's 1,600 relay of Sam Jones, Chris Poturslaki, Tyler Walden and Ben Richter clocked in at 3:34.88 to place 15th.
Eastern Hancock's Justin Cool-Luke finished in a six-way tie for fourth with a leap of 6-0 in the high jump in the small school (1A/2A/3A) meet. Teammate Derrik Noel was 10th (6-0). Cool-Luke placed higher because he cleared 5-10 on his first attempt, while Noel missed.
As for the girls, Greenfield-Central's Regan Lewis took fourth in the high jump with a bound of 5-6 in the big school meet.
Lewis, along with Sammie McCoy, Allie Dickmann and Savannah Girolami, placed ninth in the 1,600 relay with a mark of 4:13.14.
Jessi Morris competed in the pole vault, but did not place.
"I was really proud of the performances our athletes had today," G-C girls coach Jan Hacker said. "We are off to a great start."
Also in the 4A/5A division, NP's Sarah Schwartz was 18th in the 3,200 with a time of 11:42.72.
