The Mt. Vernon baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader at Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Delta, moving to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in HHC play.
MV won 2-1 in Game 1, then lost 4-3 in Game 2.
The Marauders claimed the opener behind pitcher Zach Spears, who allowed eight hits and an unearned run in six and 2/3 innings. He struck out 10 and walked two.
Tyler Langdon had three hits to pace an 11-hit MV attack.
In the second game, the Marauders fell behind 3-0 after two innings, and were hampered by six errors.
Zach Norman had three hits, including two doubles. Wyatt Wills took the loss.
Thursday, the Marauders downed Shenandoah 6-3. Ryan Beck threw four innings of three-hit, two-run ball to earn the win. Noah Powell was 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate.
Morristown 10, Eastern Hancock 4
The Yellow Jackets took a 4-0 lead in the third inning, then held on for the Mid-Hoosier Conference victory Friday.
The Royals had six hits, with Devin Denny collecting two RBI.
MV tops G-C, EH to win own invite
Mt. Vernon took first in the Mt. Vernon Invitational Saturday at Arrowhead Golf Course.
With a team score of 328, the Marauders won the 8-team event. Batesville (329) was second and Greenfield-Central (340) was third. Eastern Hancock (377) placed sixth.
G-C’s Adam Casto (74) was medalist. Alec Giesting of Batesville was second with a 76. MV’s Austin Alexander was third with a 78.
Rounding out the MV scorers were Oliver Mast (79), Will Dant (83) and Jack Harker (88). For the Cougars, Jake Kauth had an 85, Connor Spence an 88 and Clayton Long a 93.
Friday, the Marauders lost 161-164 to Pendleton Heights. Mast (37), Dant (40), Alexander (43) and Harker (44) comprised the black and gold scoring. Monday, Greenfield-Central rebounded and beat Mt. Vernon in a dual match, 165-173.
Casto paced G-C with a 37, followed by Pence (42), Kauth (43) and Gage Mann (43).
