 Class 3A No. 4 Mt. Vernon improved to 4-0 on the year with a 48-39 win over 4A New Castle (3-1) Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the six-game Hoosier Invitational. Going back to last season, the Marauders have held six straight opponents under 50 points. Friday, MV defeated Pendleton Heights 49-37. The Marauders are giving up 42.3 points, ranking among the best defenses in 3A. On Dec. 27, the Marauders will face New Palestine in the Hancock County Tourney semifinals at MV. The defending county champ Dragons (4-1) are among the state's highest-scoring 4A clubs at 69.4 points per game.

Josh Farrell became the winningest wrestler in Greenfield-Central program history with his 3-0 performance at the Perry Meridian Invite. Farrell, with 135 career wins, passed 2012 graduate on the Cougars' all-time win list. In the tourney, the Cougars beat Avon (33-29) and Roncalli (48-27) and lost to Perry Meridian 62-7. The New Palestine wrestling program continued its perfect start by winning the Columbus North Invitational. The No. 12-ranked Dragons are 16-0, and they'll host No. 7 Cathedral Wednesday in a dual meet.

In girls' basketball, 3A No. 7 Mt. Vernon (6-2) defeated Yorktown 50-37, while Chatard handled Greenfield-Central 77-54. Shelby Oldham had 17 points to lead the Cougars (2-6).

The Mt. Vernon boys and girls swim program made history Saturday by winning the six-team Hamilton Heights Invitational for the first time ever.
 
Gold medal winners were Jessica Hantz, Olivia Shannon, Maddie Powell, and Jessica Blackburn in the 200 medley relay, Gloria Gonzales in the 200 and 100 freestyle, Dixon Tierney in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, Maddie Powell in the 100 butterfly, Eve Gonzales in the 500 freestyle, Brisco Wood in the 100 breaststroke, and Jessica Blackburn, Haley Moore, Maddie Powell, and Gloria Gonzales in the 400 freestyle relay.
