Alexander paces Mt. Vernon golf




Cole Fout went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI to lead the Eastern Hancock baseball team to a 15-6 victory over Edinburgh Tuesday.

Devon Wagoner also collected three hits with a pair of RBI and two stolen bases, while Austin Lacy (two RBI), Robbie Leffew (two hits), Brandon Ray (two hits) and Garek Ferguson (four runs scored) also aided the win for the Royals (5-9).

On the mound for EH, Tom Barton threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs on six hits with 16 strikeouts in seven innings.

The Royals will host the Indianapolis Kings home school program today.

Cathedral 10, New Palestine 8

The 4A No. 1 Irish (16-3) held off a solid effort from the Dragons (11-7).

Keegan Watson homered and had two RBI for host New Palestine, while Jason Hall-Manley also had a pair of RBI.

Connersville 9, Greenfield-Central 8

The Cougars fell to 10-6 with the loss, of which no details were provided. G-C (5-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference) hosts Delta (10-8, 4-6 HHC) Friday in a conference doubleheader.

Softball

Eastern Hancock 21, Alexandria-Monroe 10

Freshman Peyton West hit her first varsity home run as part of a three-hit, five-RBI day in the Royals’ five-inning victory.

Savannah Patterson added three doubles and three RBI, Brooke Walden had three RBI and Allison Dickey collected a team-high four hits.

Walden pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs. All of Frankton’s other runs on the day were unearned on two EH errors.

Frankton 9, Eastern Hancock 2

The Royals (12-3) were limited to three hits in a loss to Class 2A No. 12 Frankton on Wednesday.

Lexi Gray had a home run and three RBI for Frankton. On the mound, Tia Sharp recorded nine strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

Mt. Vernon 13, Delta 3

The Marauders earned their second HHC win of the season on Wednesday thanks in part to a pair of home runs from Rachel Davis.

MV improved to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Shelbyville 3, Mt. Vernon 2

The Marauders collected 10 hits in 29 at-bats and fanned only three times Tuesday, but couldn’t get enough runs across the plate for a conference victory.

Hannah File (two earned runs, no walks) got the complete-game win for the Golden Bears (11-5, 5-1 HHC).

Boys golf

North Decatur 184, Eastern Hancock 200

Caleb Wallen (44) and Cole Allen (48) paced the Royals.

Mt. Vernon 167, Triton Central 193

Austin Alexander’s 36 earned medalist honors for the Marauders, while teammates Oliver Mast (42), Jacob Ault (44) and Will Dant (45) completed the team victory.

Girls tennis

Rushville 3, Greenfield-Central 2

On Wednesday, Alli Frazier (No. 1 singles) and Emma Vowell (No. 3 singles) registered wins for the Cougars (4-6).

Frazier won in two sets (6-4, 6-2), while Vowell went the distance, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Shelbyville 5, Greenfield-Central 0

The Cougars dropped to 0-4 in the HHC on Tuesday.

Muncie Burris 4, Eastern Hancock 1

Sara Neff (No. 2 singles), in straight sets, was the lone winner for the Royals Wednesday.

Morristown 3, Eastern Hancock 2

Tuesday, Neff (No. 2 singles) and Caitlin Contreraz (No. 3 singles) scored straight-set wins for the Royals.
