Prep Wrap: New Pal gymnasts move to 3-0

Led by Kiersten Schrope’s double-double and its best defensive performance of the season, the Eastern Hancock girls basketball team rolled Morristown Thursday, 58-31.

The Royals (12-4) improved to 4-2 in Mid-Hoosier Conference play by limiting the Yellow Jackets to single digits in three of four quarters. The 31 points allowed were a season-low for EH.

Schrope notched 12 points and 13 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season. She added seven assists and four steals.

Hannah Best (22 points, four rebounds) and Peyton Neisler (10 points five rebounds) also contributed for the blue and white, which has won eight of its past nine contests.

“A dominating performance throughout the entire game, as we controlled the game from the tip. We had great contributions from everyone and really bought into playing together as one on the court,” EH coach Jeremy Powers said. “We continue to get better every day and continue to play good basketball in every game.”

Morristown fell to 6-7 (2-4 MHC).

Eastern Hancock is at Waldron (3-11, 2-3 MHC) on Jan. 19.

Girls basketball

Triton Central 67, New Palestine 37

The Dragons lost their sixth straight game Thursday, a 67-37 decision at Class 2A No. 5 Triton Central.

Haley Stratman had 11 points for NP, knocking down three of her five 3-point attempts.

Natalie Kehrt and Gia Nitschke had seven points and two assists apiece. In her second game back from injury, Carly Hackler tallied six points and six rebounds.

Natalie Stephenson paced Triton Central (14-1) with 16 points.

New Palestine (2-13) is at Beech Grove (0-14) Tuesday.


New Palestine 103.85, Shelbyville 80.85

New Palestine moved to 3-0 with a home victory Thursday, achieving a season-high score in the process.

Kaytlin Fee was first in the all-around at 35.875, taking the beam (9.45) and floor (8.975) while placing second in the vault (9.0) and bars (8.45).

Kenzie Hoffman was the runner-up in the all-around (34.765), winning the vault (9.15) and finishing second on the beam (8.95) and floor (8.4). She was third on bars (8.175).

Third place in the all-around went to Shelly Huesman (32.175), who prevailed on the bars (8.725). She was third on the beam (7.55) and fourth on the vault (8.275) and floor (7.625).

Kylie Zehner placed sixth on vault (8.0), fourth on beam (7.45), second on floor (8.4),  and fourth in all around (30.4).

The Dragons travel to Richmond on Jan. 19 for a four-way meet with Muncie South, New Castle and Richmond.


Royals split with Ritter

The Eastern Hancock girls swimming and diving team topped Cardinal Ritter 65-61 Thursday.

First-place finishers were Bekah Dickmander (200 individual medley), Sarah Henderson (50 freestyle), Hailey Carlton (100 butterfly), Amanda Dickmander (500 freestyle), Mara Geisking (100 breaststroke) and the 400 freestyle relay of Carlton, Amanda Dickmander, Bekah Dickmander and Henderson.

The boys team lost to Ritter, 112-51.

The 200 freestyle relay of Sam Carlton, Cole Cochard, Tristian Holzhausen and Deven Grose triumphed for the Royals.

EH is at Elwood Wednesday.
