The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team took second in a tri-meet with Pendleton Heights and Hagerstown Monday.
The host Dragons finished with 124 points, behind Pendleton (145) but ahead of Hagerstown (37).
NP also recognized its seven seniors: Carl Baird, Chris Dodd, Grant Gish and Kelley Murphy from the boys team, and Claire Hornsby, Tricia Roberson and Addison Virt from the girls team.
Jake Mitchell, Dodd, Kelley Murphy and Todd Horn won the 200 medley relay for the home team.
Horn was also part of two second-place finishes in the 100 freestyle and in the 400 freestyle relay along with Grant Gish, David Thompson and Jake Mitchell.
“Todd Horn really looked strong (Monday) night, swimming a couple of lifetime bests and anchoring a relay with a great finish,” NP coach Steve Maxwell said. “I think he’ll be one of our guys to surprise other schools at sectional.”
Also second were Murphy in the 200 individual medley, Gish in the 50 freestyle, Conner Page in diving, Mitchell in the 100 backstroke and the 200 medley relay team of Page, Luke Reed, Joey Rogers and Parker Horn.
“This was a ‘last chance’ meet for some of the guys as final decisions about the sectional line-up were being made,” Maxwell said. “We had some really good performances and it helped to clarify what our sectional will look like.
“It’s been a rough winter and our training has been so erratic; but, after seeing how well the girls swam at their sectional last weekend, the guys are optimistic they will do equally as well. We’ll put in another week of regular workouts and then begin to rest the boys for sectional.”
