Prep Wrap: NP wrestling sweeps 5 matches at Yorktown

The 14th-ranked New Palestine wrestling team swept five matches at the Yorktown Turkey Duals Saturday.

The Dragons topped Bellmont 63-16, New Albany 72-6, Yorktown 36-32, Delta 57-24 and Western Boone 71-6

Six grapplers had perfect days for NP: C.J. Red (106), Rylan McCarty (113), Tommy Cash (120), Brian Wagner (182), Noah Grable (195) and Willie Bryan (285). Bryan won all of his matches by fall.

Jared Timberman (132), Gordon Wagner (138), Robbie Elsea (145) and Logan Hunt (145) went 4-1.

The Dragons next match is at the New Castle 6-Way on Saturday.

Girls basketball

Marion 52, Greenfield-Central 48

The Greenfield-Central girls basketball team dropped its fourth consecutive game Saturday, falling 52-48 to Marion.

The Cougars (1-4) led 18-17 after one quarter and 33-31 at halftime, but were outscored 21-15 in the second half.

Shelby Oldham paced G-C with 11 points. Regan Lewis (nine points), Sara Jones (eight points), Shelby Davis (six points) and Savannah Girolami (six points) also contributed.

“We took great shots, (the ball) just wouldn’t go in the basket. We gave great effort. I’m proud of the young ladies,” G-C coach Doug Laker said. “There will be better days for our G-C players. Hard work will pay off for them.”

The Cougars host Rushville Saturday.


The JV start of the Greenfield-Central at New Castle boys basketball game Friday has been pushed back to 6:30 p.m. The varsity contest will follow and will likely begin closer to 8 p.m.


The deadline to sign up for the New Palestine boys Future Stars league is Friday. The league is for boys in grades 3 through 6. Practices and games begin in early January.
