Prep Wrap: MV tennis nets first win via shutout

The Mt. Vernon girls tennis team blanked Shenandoah 5-0 Wednesday to earn their first victory of the season.

Allie Schafer, Sarah Jones and Kendra Eberhard won singles matches for MV.

Maddie Walrod/Addison Eads and Brianna Partin/Cassie York prevailed at doubles.

Boys golf

G-C downs NP, Whiteland

Led by Adam Casto’s medalist-winning 36, Greenfield-Central (162) topped New Palestine (166) and Whiteland (189) Wednesday.

Other scorers for the Cougars were Jake Kauth (40), Clayton Long (43) and Gage Mann (43).

Brady Elliott had a 39 for NP. Elliott was backed up by Matt Kreutzer (41), Grayden Martin (42) and Aric Kotarski (44).

Softball

Greenfield-Central 20, Westfield 2

Darcie Huber went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI while pitching four innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs allowed in the Cougars’ win.

Adding to the offensive explosion for G-C (6-1) were Jessie Brunk (4-for-5), Erika Knapp (3-for-3, three RBI) and Katey Addison, Morganne Denny and Brie Whitaker, who each had two RBI.

New Palestine 6, Frankin Central 5

Adie Lorsung went 4-for-4 with two doubles and the Dragons (4-1) edged a common Sectional 13 opponent Wednesday.

Casey Lehman and Elisha Barker had two hits and two RBI. Brittany Duncan had two hits.

Kaylin McMurray earned the win by throwing four and a third scoreless innings.

The Flashes beat NP 10-1 in last season’s sectional title game.

Chatard 4, Mt. Vernon 3

The Marauders fell to 1-3 Wednesday.

Ambry Turpen struck out 10 on the mound and added two hits at the plate.

Baseball

Hauser 11, Eastern Hancock 2

The Royals fell to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in Mid-Hoosier Conference play Wednesday.

Devon Wagonor had an RBI and a walk for EH, which gave up four runs in the second inning, three in the fourth and four more in the sixth.

The Royals had four hits and eight fielding errors.

In other games Wednesday, New Palestine baseball beat Guerin Catholic 3-0 and Greenfield-Central baseball lost 5-3 to Scecina. Details were not available Wednesday evening.
