With Hannah Yee leading the way, the Mt. Vernon girls golf team topped Delta and Shenandoah Wednesday.
The Marauders carded a 167, ahead of Delta (172) and Shenandoah (209).
Yee fired a 39 to earn medalist honors. Ellen Wuerch (42), Kaitlyn Flood (43) and Molly Yee (43) also played well.
“The girls rose to the challenge of backing up their 160 from the night before. I was pleased with our approach, they really stayed grounded and focused,” MV coach Caleb Zelencik said. “The course (Tri County) played hard and fast for the most part. It was hard to judge our approaches due to the hard and bouncy conditions.
“I saw way too many chips run to the backs of greens, but the girls did a good job of finishing some long two putts.”
According to Zelencik, the Marauders are playing some of the best golf he’s seen from a black and gold team in his eight years as coach.
“They all think they left some shots out there, but I’m happy we were able to shoot in the 160’s again,” he said. “These are the best scores our team has had since I’ve been coach. The challenge will be to stay focused and continue to play every round like we have something to prove.”
