For the sixth straight season, the Mt. Vernon and New Palestine girls tennis squads will face off in the sectional championship.
The two teams will meet this evening at MV after the Marauders downed Eastern Hancock 5-0 in their semifinal match Thursday and the defending sectional champion Dragons beat Greenfield-Central 5-0.
For MV, Allie Schafer, Sarah Jones and Kendra Eberhard swept their singles matches, while the doubles’ tandems of Maddie Walrod/Molly Laughlin and Addison Eads/Cassie York also prevailed.
As for the Dragons, Nicole Beaty, Kristi LeBeau and Emily Kiefer won at singles, and Kylar Litteral/Kara Miller and Lauren Hardebeck/Alana Henry triumphed at doubles.
The sectional winner faces the Lawrence North Sectional victor Tuesday at the North Central Regional.
Eastern Hancock 5, Edinburgh 0
The Royals improved to 15-6 overall and 5-0 in Mid-Hoosier Conference play with a win Thursday.
EH hosts MHC leader Indian Creek (11-10, 6-0) and South Decatur (3-13, 2-4) Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
New Palestine 11, Lutheran 1
The Class 4A No. 5 Dragons won their seventh straight game and moved to 21-3 Thursday.
Issy Hoyt had a home run among her three hits and drove in four for NP, which won in six innings.
Brittany Duncan had three hits and three RBI. Markie Wood notched three hits. Elisha Barker earned the win on the mound.
Alexandria-Monroe 9, Mt. Vernon 2
The Marauders fell to 7-14 Tuesday. No stats were available.
Greenwood 178, New Palestine 181
The Dragons were paced by Brady Elliott’s 40 Thursday.
Aric Kotarski and Grayden Martin had 45s. Matt Kreutzer and Sam O’Dell fired 51s.
“Lost of time off before county and sectional,” NP coach Gregg Greene said. “We will put it to good use.”

With their second tie of the season Thursday, the Royals are now 6-12-2 and 3-3-1 in MHC play.
