The Greenfield-Central swimming and diving team swept county rival Mt. Vernon in a dual meet Tuesday.
On the girls side, the host Cougars prevailed 94-91. Individual first-place finishes went to Ava Dickmann (diving), Taylor Young (500 freestyle) and Krista Zornes (100 breaststroke).
The 200 freestyle relay team of Holly Curry, Taylor Cermak, Jessica Ensign and Young also won.
“This was a big win for this program. We only won four events, which shows the kind of depth we have overall to pull in front. We had some incredible swims tonight from several girls,” G-C girls coach Emily Logan said. “This is just what we needed to head into Christmas training. This really helps them to focus in on the bigger goals as a team. The energy and positive attitude was great all night.”
Logan also credited the home atmosphere with aiding her team’s cause.
“A great big thank you to the G-C wrestlers and the GCAT swimmers for coming and keeping it loud all night,” she said.
In the boys meet, the Cougars won 116-70.
Drew Logan (200 freestyle), Jordan Cermak (50 freestyle), Nathan Graber (diving) and the 200 medley relay of Allen Forbes, Logan, Isaak Tow and Graber were victorious for Greenfield-Central.
“This was a great home meet win for the guys over a talented MV boys team,” G-C boys coach Mark Logan said. “We saw a lot of guys really step up and race well and post personal-best times. Big thanks to the G-C wrestling team in a uniform fashion.”
