After tying the game with a run in the seventh, the Mt. Vernon baseball team gave up one to Roncalli in the bottom of the eighth to fall 6-5 and drop to 13-10 on the season.
Troy Montgomery went 2-for-2 for Mt. Vernon, drawing three walks, stealing two bases and scoring a run.
Noah Powell added two hits, including a triple. Tyler Langdon, Joey Turner, Seth Gohring and Michael Thompson added RBIs.
Gohring took the loss in relief.

The Greenfield-Central boys golf team fell short in a dual match with Pendleton Heights Tuesday at Hawk’s Tail, losing 152-169.
For the Cougars (5-6, 3-2 HHC), Jake Kauth led the way with a 40.
Adam Casto (41), Clayton Long (42) and Connor Pence (46) backed up Kauth.

Greenfield-Central will host the sectional tournament on Monday, June 3 at Hawk’s Tail, with tee-off slated for 9 a.m.
Blue River Valley, Eastern Hancock, Knightstown, Morristown, Mt. Vernon, New Castle, New Palestine, Shelbyville, Shenandoah, Southwestern, Triton Central and Waldron will join the Cougars at sectional.
Lawrence North 6, Greenfield-Central 5
The Cougars lost for the third time in four tries Tuesday, dropping an away contest against the Wildcats.
Ashley Whitaker started on the mound for Greenfield-Central, allowing five hits, four runs (one earned) and striking out three. Darcie Huber came on in relief and yielded two unearned runs in three innings.
Whitaker hit her eighth home run of the season, part of a two-hit effort. She also scored two runs.
Brie Whitaker (2-for-4, run) and Alyssa Walls (double, RBI, run, two walks) provided additional offense for the Cougars.
G-C (14-10) hosts Carmel (11-1) in its regular-season finale today.

After the Marauders plated two go ahead 3-1 in the top of the eighth, the Tigers scored three to prevail.

The Eagles snapped the Royals 10-game win streak Tuesday in Charlottesville.
