Eastern Hancock volleyball continues streak




On the strength of four goals from Sammie McCoy and a hat trick from Tori Singco, the Greenfield-Central girls’ soccer team throttled Greenwood Monday, 11-0.

McCoy, who leads Hancock County in goals with 17, notched three of her scores in the first half.

Alli Frazier, Sara Hudson, Rachel Berish and Kylie Smith added goals for the Cougars (7-3), who tallied 22 shots.

Katie Peters and Courtney Dunn combined for the clean sheet in goal.

G-C is at New Palestine today.

Volleyball

Eastern Hancock 3, South Decatur 0

The Royals improved to 3-0 in Mid-Hoosier Conference play with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-15 home victory over the Cougars Monday.

Frannie Stephenson (16 kills, four aces, 11 digs), Melissa Bedell (12 kills, eight aces, five digs), Hannah Best (14 digs), Emily Jeffries (eight kills) and Jordian Eastes (35 assists, 10 digs) paced the blue-and-white.

EH (7-5) is at Shenandoah today.

Boys’ tennis

G-C 3, Shelbyville 2

The Cougars (10-4, 2-3 Hoosier Heritage Conference) pulled out a close home triumph Monday.

Chris Kersey (No. 2 singles), Brandon Hull (No. 3 singles) and Max Holtzclaw/Jake Kauth (No. 1 doubles) were the winners for G-C.

New Palestine 5, Pendleton Heights 0

Fresh off its victory in the Hancock County Tournament Saturday, New Palestine (7-3, 2-1 HHC) swept visiting Pendleton Heights Monday.

Stratton Smith (No. 2 singles) and Connor Swain (No. 3 singles) both won 6-0, 6-0.

Brent Barrett (No. 1 singles), Evan Poole/Shayan Khokhar (No. 1 doubles) and David Thompson/Pete Rusche (No. 2 doubles) also prevailed in straight sets.

“We played really well all the way through the lineup,” NP coach Chris Hardin said. “I feel like we’re headed in the right direction after spending some time finding ourselves.

“We’re in a position where if we keep moving forward, we’re going to be in a good place some sectional time.”

Frankton 3, Eastern Hancock 2

Garrett Hammond (No. 3 singles) prevailed in two sets while Ignacio Midon and Kirby Petry (No. 1 doubles) won in three sets for the Royals Monday.

Girls’ golf

Mt. Vernon 190, Greenfield-Central 199, Warren Central 217

The Marauders took first in a home tri-match Monday.

MV’s Ellen Wuerch (41) earned medalist honors, and was backed up by Molly Yee (48), Hannah Yee (49) and Bailey Fleming (52).

G-C’s top four scores were Makenzie Fisk (48), Jordan Dicken (49) as well as Ali Kern and Nicole Morley (51s).

Union County 157, Eastern Hancock 214

Rachel Boaz (46) and Casey Hancock (57) both posted their best scores of the season as the Royals dropped their match Monday.

Hailey Carlton (50) and Breanna Jones (61) also contributed for EH.

Pendleton Heights 172, New Palestine 193

Abby Poole fired a 42 to pace the Dragons, who lost to the host Arabians.

Cassie Rooks (49), Sarah Rose (50) and Bailey Kamp (52) rounded out the NP scoring.

PH had four players under 43.
