Ben Farley and Shayan Khokhar’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles clinched a 3-2 win over Franklin Central for the New Palestine boys tennis team Wednesday.
Brent Barrett and Connor Swain won 6-1, 6-0 at singles.
The Flashes were shorthanded with injuries and other issues.
“With everybody there, it’s a top-10 team,” NP coach Chris Hardin said of FC. “We felt it was good getting the win, but at the same time, we still have some areas we need to work on.”
New Palestine 3, Shelbyville 2
The Dragons improved to 6-2 Thursday, netting wins from Pete Rusche/David Thompson at No. 1 doubles, Farley/Khokhar and Jake Purcell at No. 3 singles.
“A really solid match overall. We started out really strong. We kind of slid just a little bit, so we need to make sure we stay focused on every point,” Hardin said.
Mt. Vernon 4, Anderson 1
The Marauders got wins from Mark Alvarado (No. 2 singles), Brendon Ware (No. 3 singles), Ben Bobb/Derek Barnett (No. 1 doubles) and Matt Hays/Ryan Beck (No. 2 doubles) Wednesday.
Yorktown 3, Mt. Vernon 2
MV (4-4) lost a close home match Thursday. Bobb/Barnett and Ware picked up wins.
Greenfield-Central 5, Morristown 0
The Cougars improved to 8-1 on the season with a sweep of the visiting Yellow Jackets Thursday.
Lapel 3, Eastern Hancock 2
Brandon Ray (No. 3 singles) and Corbin Jennings/Kirby Petry (No. 2 doubles) won for the Royals Wednesday.
Mt. Vernon 3, Noblesville 2
The Marauders remained unbeaten at 6-0 by defeating the 14th-ranked team in 2A Thursday.
Mouhamed Konate tallied his 11th goal of the season for MV. Jacob Fontaine and Jacob Thomas added scores.
Shane DeWael, Matt Powell and Konate had assists.
“We dominated play. They scored on a fluke goal with a minute left,” MV coach Aaron Britt said. “We took a large step forward tonight. We played really well, moved the ball and just worked hard. I’m proud of the team effort and proud of my guys.”
