EH volleyball opens with win over Morristown; MV drops 5-setter

The New Palestine volleyball team prevailed in its initial contest in the Jerry Saffold era by defeating Rushville 25-13, 25-15, 25-23 at home on Tuesday to get the first-year NP coach a win in his first game.

McKenze Qualkinbush had 12 digs and 17 assists for NP. Katie Morris added 12 kills. Mikayla Little notched six aces while Megan Hawley had five kills and 11 digs.

NP hosts North Decatur today.

Volleyball

Eastern Hancock 3, Morristown 1

The Royals scored a win in their first match of the season, defeating Morristown 25-13, 27-29, 25-13, 25-14.

Hannah Best tallied 45 digs and eight aces. Tori Bednarski recorded 28 digs and three aces. Melissa Bedell had 14 kills and 23 digs. Bekah Dickmander posted 14 kills and five blocks.

EH hosts Cambridge City today.

Hamilton Heights 3, Mt. Vernon 2

The Huskies dropped the Marauders in MV’s first match of 2012 25-17, 17-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-9.

Ellie Balbach (13 kills, 13 assists), Emily White (14 digs), Abby Glazier (13 digs), Aubri Benbow (14 digs) and Mary Grace Ertel (eight kills, five aces, 14 assists) contributed for MV.

MV welcomes Lawrence North today.
