The Mt. Vernon boys’ soccer team opened its 2012 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Richmond Monday.
CJ Coleman tallied two goals and an assist to lead MV, while Mouhamed Konate (goal, assist) and Shane DeWael (assist) contributed to the cause.
“We maintained possession for a large majority of the game and some of our forward players combined for a couple of beautiful goals against a really strong keeper,” MV coach Aaron Britt said. “Got the first game down and with everyone back, we are ready to go.”

The Dragons prevailed in their season opener Monday, thereby getting Bobby Holden his first win as coach.
Emily Sitzman scored the lone goal of the match on a feed from Amy Hilton in the 61st minute. Kenzie Morgan recorded 13 saves for her first varsity shutout.
“The girls did a great job staying positive through a tough first half. Perry Meridian has a good team and played very well,” Holden said. “Our team worked hard at focusing on what needed to be done to have more success in the second half…I’m very proud of their effort tonight and happy for them to start their season off with a win.”
