MV girls first, boys second at Pendleton
Boosted by seven first-place finishes, the Mt. Vernon girls track team (70 points) outlasted Pendleton Heights (64) and Rushville (33) Tuesday at PH.
Aliyah Myers (200), Phylisia Donaldson (100, 300 hurdles), Olivia Coleman (100, 400), Zoe Harves (pole vault) and the 400 relay of Zuri Goodman, Donaldson, Taylor Riggs and Stevanni McCray prevailed.
“This meet could have gone either way with Pendleton, who will be a horse of a different color in the conference and sectional,” MV girls coach Tim Leonard said. “I hope we can hang with them when it comes to those meets.”
The boys team (62 points) fell to Rushville (64), but topped Pendleton Heights (44).
Winners for MV were Andrew Payne (110, 300 hurdles), Caleb White (100) and Chase Harker (pole vault, personal-best leap of 12-2).
"Went down to the last event for the fourth time this season as the Lions leaned us out at the line in the 4x4. We are two and two on the decision being made on the last event," MV coach Bruce Kendall said. "...We are just hoping to have a meet someday when it’s not raining, but if we get to the big meets and it rains, we are ready."
