The boys tennis individual state tournament continues at 4 p.m. today with sectional matches at Greenfield-Central.
On Court 1, Dakota Smith (G-C) will play Mark Alvarado (Mt. Vernon) in a No. 1 singles match.
On Court 3, Max Holtzclaw/Jake Kauth (G-C) face Grant Williams/Ben Bobb (MV) in No. 1 doubles.
Winners move on to further competition Wednesday at North Central.
Today’s participants advanced because they were unbeaten in team sectional play.
In the team tournament, New Palestine (14-2) faces 18-0 North Central today at NC. The Dragons moved on to regional via a 3-2 defeat of Greenfield-Central last week in the sectional final.
The NP-NC winner faces the winner of the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional and Lawrence North (15-7) Wednesday in the regional finals at North Central.
After finishing second two of the past three years, second-ranked Carmel broke through to win the girls golf state championship Saturday at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin.
Valparaiso senior Harley Dubsky fired a two-day score of 144 to win the individual title.
Carmel won its second overall girls golf state title by shooting a 604. Penn (631) was second and Zionsville (639) was third. Yorktown (660) was fifth.
Dubsky was also the recipient of the Mental Attitude Award.
