The Wes-Del football team seems to have found its own Pat Echeverria.
Much like the Eastern Hancock football program three years ago when Echeverria took over as head coach, Wes-Del has been in a down cycle.
The Warriors haven’t posted a winning season since 1990. Their best records in the last 23 years were 5-5 marks in 1992 and 2007.
This year, though, under rookie head coach Brad Hess, Wes-Del is off to a 4-2 start. The surprising Warriors will visit Class A No. 6 Eastern Hancock (6-0) Friday.
“They’re a much improved team from last year,” said Echeverria, who has helped the Royals clinch their first winning season since 2006. “Coach Hess is doing a good job of getting the program turned around.
“They’ve got a bunch of different guys that carry the football, and they’re a pretty solid running team.”
