In the Special Children’s Classic featuring basketball players from Hancock County and Shelby County, the squads split a girls-boys doubleheader Friday at Triton Central.
Led by Southwestern’s Annie Thomas (19 points), Shelby County won the girls’ game 72-50.
Kaytlin Eastes (17), Lauren Harmon (10) and Kiersten Schrope (10), all of Eastern Hancock, led Hancock County.
In the boys’ game, Michael Morris (25) and Justin Ikerd (21) of New Palestine and Greenfield-Central’s Derek Conley (19) paced Hancock County to an 86-69 win.
Cody Sullivan (14) of Waldron led Shelby County.
The Special Children’s Classic was traditionally played as an annual home-and-home series, with doubleheaders in the same weekend or back-to-back weeks at Triton Central and New Palestine. Organizers changed the Classic to one night only this year. A single doubleheader will be played at New Palestine next year.
