G-C hires assistant basketball coach

Greenfield-Central boys basketball coach Michael Lewis added Seve Beach as his varsity assistant Monday, filling out his first-year staff.
Beach, son of former Shelbyville coach Tom Beach, was approved by the G-C school board Monday. In recent months, the board also approved Gary Cerqua as boys JV coach.
Beach and Cerqua take assistant spots formerly occupied by Jared Manning, Isaac Beal and Jeff Bertsch. Manning, also formerly the soccer head coach, stepped down from both positions after being hired as the school’s athletic director, while Beal became the soccer coach.
Lewis was hired in May to replace Josh Johnson, who resigned.
The Eastern Hancock girls golf team moved to 1-1 on the season, downing Wapahani 212-215.
Macy Fout was the low scorer for the Royals, carding a 49.
Rachel Boaz (51), Abby Fout (55) and Ryley Burkhart (57) rounded out the scoring for EH.
Makenzie Fisk fired an 88 to pace the Greenfield-Central girls golf team (388) to a fourth-place finish out of 18 teams at the Greensburg Invitational Saturday. It was G-C’s first meet of 2014.
Fisk’s score was good enough to place her seventh among individuals.
For G-C, Megan Garner had a 93, Lindsey McCord shot 94 and Kim Miles had a 113.
The New Palestine girls golf team shot 372 to place seventh out of 21 teams in its initial meet of 2014 Saturday at the Classic State Preview hosted by Center Grove. The teams played at Prairie View Golf Course, the site of the State Finals.
Abby Poole led the Dragons with an 89, and she was backed up by Mackenzi Black (90), Cassie Rooks (95) and Sarah Rose (98).
