Katie Peters is known around Central Indiana mostly for her athletic ability. After a four-year career at Greenfield-Central that included a program-record 41 shutouts — capped this month by a sectional-championship blanking of New Palestine — Peters will attend Indiana University next fall to play soccer for the Hoosiers.
But, to those who truly know Peters, it’s the aforementioned extracurricular activities, her team-first attitude and caring spirit that make Peters unique.
“I’ve been an athletic director and a teacher and a coach for a long, long time; 39 years in education,” G-C athletic director Kevin Horrigan said. “And I could count on my two hands the number of students I’ve met that are the complete package. Katie is one of those.
“She’s an unbelievable human being. I say that not because of her athletic skill. She’s a wonderful, wonderful soccer player. She’s a wonderful, wonderful basketball player. But beyond that she has a quality … Katie’s a natural born leader.”
