Eastern Hancock graduate and Hanover College senior Lexi Vincz helped her track and field team win its third consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title at North Manchester over the weekend. Vincz shattered her own school and conference record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.95, which ranks 15th in the country.
Vincz was also a member of the second place 1600 relay team which set a new school record. In addition she placed 4th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.63, the third fastest in school history.
As a member of the Royals track team, Vincz made it to the state finals as a senior in the 300 hurdles, where she placed 10th.
Greenfield-Central graduate and Wabash freshman Matt Dickerson set a new Wabash record with 6,012 points to finish third in the decathlon at the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Multi-Event Competition.
Dickerson broke the old record of 5,850 points set by Jon Haug in 2000 at the NCAC event. Dickerson’s total is the 16th-highest amount for a Division III athlete this season in the decathlon.
Anderson University freshman and G-C grad Sami Frazier was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week after going 7-for-9 (.778) with two doubles, two runs scored, five RBI, and a 1.000 slugging percentage as Anderson (19-11, 9-3 HCAC) posted a sweep of Transylvania and Rose-Hulman during the week to take over the top spot in the league standings.
Earlier this season, Frazier was named the HCAC Pitcher of the Week.
At the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Greenfield-Central graduate and Miami (Ohio) redshirt senior Samantha Gable finished eighth in the discus with a personal-best throw of 45.47m/149-2, which moves her into seventh in school history.
In the hammer throw, Gable claimed ninth with a season-best toss of 53.48m/175-5.
