GREENFIELD — Renovations are taking shape at two public sites in downtown Greenfield.
A concrete wall, sidewalk replacement and landscaping are being added to the front of city hall. The renovations will also include an electronic community message board, which was funded by both the Hancock County Tourism Commission and the Hancock County Visitors Bureau. The wall and sidewalk improvements are being funded with roughly $15,000 of leftover funds from last year’s downtown streetscape project.
Just a couple blocks away, county officials are finally seeing work done to the parking lot south of the Hancock County Courthouse Annex. The parking lot has been gravel since the former American Legion building was demolished in 2011. County commissioners agreed to spend roughly $66,000 to pave and stripe the lot, which can be used by government employees and the public.
Both projects have been in the works for weeks, but officials wanted to make sure they were completed before thousands of visitors come to the community for the Riley Festival, which is the first weekend in October.
