GREENFIELD — Local residents could soon be asked to turn off their sprinklers to preserve diminishing water levels during central Indiana’s ongoing drought.

Following the ninth straight day of temperatures soaring above 90 degrees, local officials say water levels remain safe for now but they may soon ask citizens to cut back on caring for their dry, brittle grass.

Residents of New Palestine, Cumberland and McCordsville who use Indianapolis-based Citizens Water have already been asked to limit lawn watering to once a week.
