GREENFIELD — Water bucket in hand, Maggie Bova tromped through the swine barn with a look of determination.

Typically bustling with activity, the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds looked like a ghost town Thursday as visitors stayed home to avoid record-breaking heat that reached 104 degrees by late afternoon.

Maggie, 12, walked from stall to stall, spraying down sweltering pigs and lowering buckets of water into their pens.
