Commissioners reach out to Shelby County for financial aid for project

NEW PALESTINE — Repairs to a dilapidated bridge near New Palestine are on hold while local officials hope for financial help from Shelby County.

The bridge, on CR 600S near CR 300W, is on the Shelby/Hancock County line.

County engineer Joe Copeland said he requested Shelby County Commissioners to pay for half of the construction costs, which is about $275,000. Six months after he asked, he got a letter last week stating the Shelby commissioners had denied financial assistance.
