The NCAA Division II 17th-ranked University of Indianapolis baseball team (42-14) dismissed Northern Kentucky 4-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship Sunday at Bosse Field in Evansville.
The Greyhounds’ conference championship team includes three New Palestine graduates: Patrick Kraft, Adam Rusche and Scott Lawley.
In the win over Northern Kentucky, Kraft was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run on six hits in seven innings.
Kraft, a senior, is 2-0 on the year with a 2.52 ERA in seven appearances.
Rusche, a senior right fielder, went 2-for-4 in the game and is hitting .230 on the season in 37 starts.
Lawley, a junior second baseman, went 1-for-2 and scored two runs Sunday to up his average to .304. Lawley has started 55 of the Greyhounds’ 56 games.
Brady Thomas, a UIndy freshman and another New Palestine graduate on the Greyhounds’ roster, has not seen action with the Greyhounds’ varsity club this season.
UIndy advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament beginning Thursday in Ypsilanti, Mich.
