GREENFIELD — A New Palestine woman faces criminal charges after she struck a cyclist with her car, left the scene, then lied to police about the accident, court records state.
Karen Pruet, 57, has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanors charges, despite having admitted her role in the accident.
The victim told police he was riding home from work in the 1200 block of McKenzie Road the morning of Aug. 28 when a white PT Cruiser started to pass him.
The vehicle went by but was too close to the side of the road, the man said, and struck the side of his mountain bike, knocking him into a ditch off the side of the road.
The car did not stop to see whether the cyclist was injured, police said.
The man was not seriously injured, having suffered a few minor abrasions. His bike was also damaged.
