GREENFIELD — A series of accidents resulted in traffic being snarled for several hours on Interstate 70 this morning.
Police said the chain reaction began with a car that ran out of gas in the westbound lanes near the 92 mile marker. That caused a traffic backup that later resulted in a fender-bender near Mt. Comfort Road around 7:25 a.m. That accident then caused a serious rear-end collision between two semis around 7:50 a.m.
The drive of one semi was airlifted to the hospital, but his injuries were described as non life-threatening.
Both lanes of westbound I-70 were closed until shortly after 9 a.m.
