The Mt. Vernon High School cheerleading squad picked up its record seventh Hoosier Heritage Conference championship Saturday. The Marauders, coached by Kim Miller and Natalie Ahonen, beat runner-up Pendleton Heights to win their seventh HHC title since 2001, the most of any conference cheer team.
The conference champion Mt. Vernon team includes Zuri Goodman, Emily McKinney, Hannah Yee, Lucy Murphy, Samantha Husar, Cheyenne Michael, Maddy King, Kailey Weaver, Molly Yee, Jordan Schacherer, Sydney Husar and Garrett Mauk.
The Marauders also won HHC cheer titles in 2011, 2009, 2007, 2003, 2002 and 2001.
A pair of New Palestine cheerleaders also earned honors recently.
Madison Roseman and Kylie Zehner and were two of only 12 cheerleaders across the state to be named All-State by the Indiana Association of School Principals.
Zehner and Roseman were awarded scholarships and their pictures will be placed on the New Palestine Wall of Fame.
Zehner and Roseman are the fourth New Palestine cheerleaders to make All-State in the history of the program. Kylie's older sister, Corinne, earned the honor, as did Emily Greene.
