NEW PALESTINE — By the end of January, Mt. Vernon could very well resemble the team that was expected to be a contender in its first season of Class 4A basketball.

For now, the Marauders are getting healthy and settling for game-by-game improvement. That formula is still good enough to beat most teams — which was proven true again Tuesday night as MV dispatched county foe New Palestine 44-25 for its 30th straight Hoosier Heritage Conference win.

It was also the 10th straight victory over the Dragons for the Marauders, who limited the hosts to five made field goals and aided in 27 NP turnovers.

MV is playing without Indiana Junior All-Star and 2012-13 Hancock County Player of the Year Erica Moore, as well as key reserve Sadie Baugh. Neither has seen game action this season for coach Julie Shelton, whose Marauders (6-2) remained atop the HHC standings at 3-0.
