FORTVILLE — As the summer heats up, the list of Mt. Vernon winter sports coaching vacancies grows.

Dan McKinney, the Marauders’ wrestling head coach the last two seasons, resigned from that post last week, citing a need to focus on his professional career as a firefighter.

Prior to taking over the MV varsity program for Jason Smith in 2010, McKinney had been the Marauders’ middle school coach since 2001.

“Twelve years ago I was well into my professional career when I received a call out of the blue from a friend stating that the (middle school) wrestling team needed a head coach,” said McKinney, who works for the Indianapolis Fire Department.
