The potent Mt. Vernon ground game was up to its usual tricks Friday night at Shelbyville.
Buoyed by big games from Dan Werner and Alec Lohman, the Marauders (5-1, 2-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference) gashed the Golden Bears (4-2, 2-1 HHC) for 433 rushing yards and won their third game in a row, 46-15.
Since a 49-25 setback to Yorktown in Week 3, MV has won its next three games by an average margin of 48-.7-11.7.
“We were really clicking on offense,” Mt. Vernon coach Doug Armstrong said. “Our offensive line played extremely well.”
Werner accumulated 189 yards on 14 carries, while Lohman picked up 145 yards on 15 carries. The duo combined for four rushing touchdowns.
“Dan and Alec both had exceptional nights,” Armstrong said.
The visitors needed just three plays to score on the game’s opening drive, which culminated with Lohman’s score from six yards out.
