Eastern Hancock’s Shelby Mourey finished tied for third in the high jump at Saturday’s Indoor State Finals at Indiana Wesleyan.
Competing in the Class A-3A division, Mourey’s best leap was five feet, two inches, which was the same height as Danielle Pippenger of Churubusco. Southridge’s Aubrey Main won by clearing 5-5.
Elsewhere for the EH girls, the 800 relay finished 19th, timing in at one minute, 58.34 seconds. Kaycee Ruble was 24th in the shot put.
For the boys, Derrik Noel notched a podium finish in the high jump, taking fourth with a leap of 6-0. Tanner Oakley of Lakeland won the event, clearing 6-2. EH’s Justin Cool-Luke was 12th.
The Royals’ 1600 relay was 12th, finishing in 3:44.12.
G-C girls relay 10th
The Greenfield-Central 1,600 relay of Becca Flora, Regan Lewis, Amanda Flora and Savannah Girolami finished 10th in the Class 4A-6A State Finals, setting a new school indoor record time of 4:12.17 in the process.
The quartet missed getting a state medal by one spot, clocking in .14 seconds behind ninth-place South Bend Adams. Hamilton Southeastern won the race in 4:02.72.
“I was very pleased with the ladies’ performance. We were seeded 15th and left everything out on the track,” G-C coach Jan Hacker said. “I could not have asked for anything more from such an outstanding group.”
In individual events, Girolami was 20th in the 400. Lewis finished with no height cleared in the high jump.
For the Greenfield boys, Tyler Beeson and Logan Addington took ninth and 21st in the shot put, respectively.
