Week 1 of high school football couldn’t have gone any better for Hancock County, the Hoosier Heritage Conference or the Mid-Indiana Football Conference on Friday.
Eastern Hancock did its part to keep the night perfect with a 47-35 win over non-conference foe Tri-Central.
Combined with wins from EH‘s larger county brethren Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine, the Hancock squads each won their season-opening contests for the first time in at least 20 years. (Available game-by-game records go back to 1994).
In addition, the Hoosier Heritage Conference went 8-0 against its non-conference foes. And every team in Eastern Hancock’s MIFC earned a win, except Knightstown, which fell to fellow MIFC member Indian Creek.
There will be one other MIFC loss this Friday, as Class A No. 11 Eastern Hancock hosts South Decatur in the lone MIFC matchup of Week 2.
The Royals rolled the Cougars 61-7 last year in EH’s highest-scoring contest since 2006. Pat Echeverria isn’t assuming another rout, though.
