Everything's coming up roses for Master Gardeners

GREENFIELD — The public is invited to attend the Hancock County Master Gardener Association monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Purdue Extension Hancock County office, 802 N. Apple St., just north of the fairgrounds.

Mark Nolen, who has been the president of the Indianapolis Rose Society for six of the last eight years, will speak on “Caring for Roses.” He has been growing roses for over 40 years, and currently has 350 rose bushes in his garden.

Many of Nolen’s roses are exhibition varieties and require a little more care. He has been honored as a “Master Rosarian” by the American Rose Society, is an accredited judge with the society and has traveled all over the United States judging rose shows. Nolen has also written many articles about growing roses for local, district and national magazines and newsletters.

A business meeting of the Master Gardeners follows the program at 7:40 p.m. Please direct any questions to Joyce at (317) 442-6143, or Vicki at 861-9437.
