PENDLETON — Mt. Vernon and Pendleton Heights went into Friday’s matchup with a lot in common.

Both are down their top returning scorer from 2012-13. Both were demolished by Hamilton Southeastern in their last game. Both figure to be challengers for the Hoosier Heritage Conference and Sectional 9 championships.

For three quarters, it looked as if the Marauders would emerge with a victory in the battle of similar teams.

But, the host Arabians rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and hung on to win 59-56, handing MV its third loss of the season — one more than it had all last year.

Ahead 34-26 entering the final frame, the Marauders (1-3, 0-1 HHC) were outscored 33-22 in the fourth quarter and overtime.
