GREENFIELD — A year after a young girl was allegedly assaulted, the family friend she says raped her has been arrested.
Jose Chimal, 44, of Indianapolis, was jailed Monday afternoon on multiple felony charges, including two counts of child molest, one count of criminal confinement and one count of vicarious sexual conduct.
Chimal is accused of forcing a young girl to have sex after telling the child she could use his laptop computer and to come into a bedroom where he was waiting to get it. When the girl came into the bedroom to get the computer, Chimal forced himself on her, charging documents state.
The girl did not initially come forward about the incident because she said Chimal threatened to harm her if she told anyone about what had happened, according to court documents.
One of the child molest charges against Chimal is a Class A felony, which carries a penalty of 20 to 50 years and $10,000 in fines. His remaining charges are all Class C felonies, which carry penalties of two to eight years and $10,000 in fines.
Chimal remained in the Hancock County Jail at press time and is scheduled to go to court for an initial hearing Thursday, court records show.
