MT. COMFORT — Construction of the roundabout at Mt. Comfort Road and CR 300N is back on track to begin in spring 2014, after county officials worried for two weeks that a dispute between attorneys would push back the project another year.
At issue was land at the northwest corner of the intersection, which includes the El Nopal restaurant. The land had been tied up in an eminent domain dispute for months, and county commissioners agreed earlier this summer to pay $650,000 for the parcel – the most expensive of the seven parcels of land they bought for the project. Commissioners also agreed the tenants of the restaurant could remain until March 11, 2014.
But Karen Beeson, owner of the property, came to the commissioners Oct. 2, saying her attorney and the county’s attorney were having problems ironing out lingo in the agreement regarding insurance coverage for the restaurant and how wide the driveway to the rest of her property would be built. She said she wouldn’t sign the deal until the problems were worked out.
