INDIANAPOLIS — At Friday’s girls swimming state finals, Hancock County was represented by only three swimmers.
And yet, seniors Carly Fernandes, Taylor Johnson and Emily Trimpe have combined to attain enough accolades in their four years that entire teams don’t come close to gathering in that same span.
Eighteen school records. Thirteen Hoosier Heritage Conference wins. Eleven sectional titles.
“I was talking to Carly earlier and said, ‘Your names are going to be up there, and those little kids are going to be saying, “Why’d she have to be so fast’?” Greenfield-Central coach Emily Logan said with a laugh.
Before Friday’s preliminaries began, the trio talked briefly on the pool deck in what could be described as semi-circle of swimming success.
The state finals weren’t just the end of the road for this decorated trio — it provided an opportunity for them to cement their legacies.
