GREENFIELD — Three jail officers had to seek medical treatment this week after outbursts from an inmate officials believe was high on bath salts.

Derek R. Hammel, 26, of McCordsville, faces four additional counts of battery on top of his original charges of auto theft, battery and resisting law enforcement because of injuries jail officers suffered since he was booked into the Hancock County Jail Monday morning.

Hammel admitted to having used bath salts, among other drugs, prior to his arrest, jail commander Capt. Andy Craig said.
