The Mt. Vernon girls basketball team handled Howe 72-19 in the Class 3A Sectional 26 quarterfinal Tuesday at Chatard.
The defending sectional champion Marauders (17-4) jumped out to a 21-2 lead after a quarter, and held a 37-5 advantage at halftime.
Rachel Houck notched a double-double (17 points, 12 steals) for Class 3A No. 6 MV, which sports a six-game sectional winning streak.
Sydney Shelton had 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals for the black-and-gold, which registered 30 steals on the night.
In her first action since Jan. 3, Erica Moore tallied 14 points. The junior missed seven games recovering from knee surgery. Sadie Baugh added 11 points and eight rebounds for MV.
The Marauders face Guerin Catholic (15-7) Friday at 7:30 p.m. MV beat Guerin 70-45 on Jan. 15.
